The Keynsham community has joined together to raise 930 shoeboxes lovingly filled with Christmas presents for disadvantaged children in Romania. Each year Keynsham Elim Church runs the Romania Christmas Shoebox appeal in partnership with a grass-roots charity in Oradea, eastern Romania who work year-round with disadvantaged families and children.

For these impoverished children, they would otherwise receive no presents this Christmas time. Thanks to the love and generosity of schools, nurseries, guiding groups, churches, other organisations and individuals, we raised an amazing sum of 930 shoeboxes for the families. The shoeboxes are packed with practical items such as warm clothing for the cold winter, life essentials such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, as well as loving Christmas presents such as toys, chocolate and colouring books to name but a few. Each and every shoebox will change the lives of hundreds of Romanian children this season.

Right now the shoeboxes are being sorted and safety checked ready for shipment via lorry across Europe in the coming weeks. On 6th December a team from Keynsham Elim Church will travel to meet our Romanian partner organisation, CASA Grace in Oradea, ready to hand deliver every shoebox to the underprivileged families the charity routinely work with. The church also partners with CASA Grace on other charitable projects such as installing reliable water supplies, food parcel aid and a Christian summer camp for the children.

The shoebox delivery roughly coincides with Saint Nicholas day - the day which Romanians traditionally give Christmas presents, similar to our 25th December celebrations here in the UK. The team will eventually return by December 11th in time for our own Christmas celebration here in the UK where they will later share their experiences delivering your shoeboxes in church, and online. A special feedback service will be announced via our Facebook page closer to the time.

A special thanks goes to the follow groups who went above and beyond in joining us on our mission:

  • Keynsham Elim Church and family & friends
  • Epic children and families
  • Charfield Chapel
  • Wickwar church
  • Culverhill School, Yate
  • Red Bus Nursery & Preschool
  • Close Farm Surgery
  • Kingswood Health Centre
  • 3rd Weston-super-Mare Brownies
  • 1st Churchill Rainbows
  • 1st Churchill Guides
  • 2nd Weston-super-Mare Rangers
  • Keynsham Community

The Romania Shoebox Appeal is just one way in which Keynsham Elim Church supports disadvantaged and underprivileged families in Romania. Teams and sponsors from the community also support water projects, food aid, and a summer camp for children. You can find out more about our projects and how you can support these families on our Romania Mission page.

Thank you to everyone that has made a shoebox this year - every single shoebox opened will bring a smile to a child's face this Christmas! So once again we say a 'HUGE THANK YOU!'.
