The Romania team have arrived in Oradea ahead of this year's summer camp, and now are leading the first part of the camp with the younger group of children.
The annual volunteer-led summer camp is put on each year to bring God's transformative love and joy into disadvantaged Romanian children's lives. The camp provides 3 meals a day, clothes & toiletries, fun and games, and the opportunity for the children to meet with God.
The team left Keynsham at 3am Saturday morning, heading to Luton airport by minibus. Following a flight delay, the 15 volunteers flew into Debrecen and crossed over the Hungarian border to join forces with our partners as CASA Grace - a grass-roots social work charity who work with disadvantaged families in Oradea year round. After a short catch-up the teams traveled together, again by mini-bus, to the campsite some 2 hours outside of Oradea and worked into the night to get the camp ready for the special guests arriving Sunday morning.
This year has been made more challenging by a yellow-level weather warning of heavy rain which arrived on the camp with the team. The weather has since calmed a great deal, nonetheless it hasn't put a dampener on spirits where the kids are having a great time in all the indoor space the location provides. The group as still praying for the rain to clear and the sun to shine!
"We meet each morning at 7am as a leadership team to spend time with the Lord, encourage one another and pray for the children. It has been really encouraging for us to know our church family back home are joining us in prayer for the camp and kids this year. We'll try our best to keep you updating with news via our Facebook page", shared Chris this afternoon.
The summer camp is entirely funded by donations from the volunteers on the camp and members of Keynsham Elim church & the public. Fundraising events put on throughout the year such as Matt & Ben's recent sponsored 102 mile walk, our charity quiz night, and the sponsored Weston walk to name just a few drew in viral funds from our generous donors.
As well as these one-off single donation style events, we owe a debt of gratitude to our loyal regular givers who give via our Sponsor a Child programme, a regular charitable giving programme. The regular financial giving programme enables donars to sponsor the costs of an individual child and receive updates to how their money made a difference about the specific child after the camp.
